Imagine a world where the U.S.A. don't exist anymore, the new country that results is now called "Panem". This country is tilted in 13 districts which have to produce something unique for the Head of the country, the "Capitol"
After the "Dark Days" (the district's rebellion) the Capitol claimed that every year, every district shall offer one young boy and one young girl aged from 12 to 18 at a public "reaping"
For the 74th Hunger Games, the heroin, Katniss Everdeen was chosen with a boy from her district Peeta Mellark. While she defied the Capitol's authorities with mortal berries, she became a symbol with her Mockingjay pin. After that, the President sent her back to the arena to fight once more for the Third Quarter Quell (the 75th Hunger Games) But after only 3 days, she destroyed the force field and was saved by the rebels of district 13, but her "boyfriend" Peeta was kept by the Capitol as a weapon against her.
