Hunger Games

We see from the beginning of the film that it is a dystopian universe with the short text. It explains that there was a war and that now the 12 districts must each send 2 teenagers drawn for what they call the Hunger Games. People living in the Capitol are extravagant and without embarrassment while those in the districts hardly have enough food.
When we see District 12 we have trouble watching, we see dirty children hiding, miners exhausted from the mines but what does not help is the camera shaking which accentuates our feeling of discomfort.
So we realize that this world does not really exist, that it is a dystopia.

HUNGER GAMES

THE HUNGER GAMES

Today, I'm going to talk about the dystopia which is present in the Hunger Games movies and books.

In the first part of this extract, we can see two people who are wearing suits. They have an original pilosity, perfectly maintained, fancy clothes and sustained vocabulary. The director uses light effects and transition between the two guys. He also wants to show their emotions and their positive sides.

In the second part of this extract, we can see a woman with her sister. She is crying and is scared. We can see the misery in District 12 thanks to the dirty clothes the people wear, the condition of the houses, the lack of food. The cameras show this misery more precisely thanks to the shots. The light here is darker, we can hear screams...

Finally, the director insists on the difference between the Capitol and District 12 because he wants to show the superiority of the Capitol. He did this to accentuate the parallelism between the two situations. We can deduce that it was a hyperbola.

The Hunger Games : opening scene

First, we can see two men on a television set in the Capitol. We have a medium shot because we can see people down to the chest. We can see colours are lively, for exemple one of the men has blue hair, the back of the picture is coloured, the other man has a red tie. Then another time we have a close up, there is a huge zoom on the faces to see the characters' trait well, and their level in social order, we can see they are well dressed compared to people in the district. These men are talking about the Hunger Games, districts, and we hear the public clap.

The second plan is a full shot on District 12, we can see an empty setting, a cold atmosphere, there are deep colours except the green colour which appears on trees, if not all the setting is made in wood, we observe broken plough and a remote landscape.

The next scene is a close up on Katniss and her sister Primrose who is crying in her arms, because she had a nightmare where she was selected for the Hunger Games. Katniss is singing to reassure Primrose about her dream and she sings with her. After, we can see Katniss who wants to go out and her cat grouches on her. It is a medium shot on Katniss. Next, we can see men who are soldiers, they walk, and two children are concealed. People look poor because of their clothes. There is a dog who is barking.

Hunger Games

Hello everybody! In our new article we are going to be interested in angles and in differences present between the Capitol and District 12 in an extract from the Hunger Games. Good reading !

In this excerpt from The Hunger Games, we can see that the cameraman used a medium shot on the characters of the Capitol. These characters are presented as rich, we see that they are well-dressed, clean, colorful, cheerful. Indeed, the angle allows us to see the details of their clothes, we see that Caesar's jacket is glittery. The colours also show that members of the Capitol are excessive, they like eccentricity., they are all dressed up with lots of colours, their hairstyles are high and full of color, men are clean, shaven.

When District 12 appears it is a totally different atmosphere. the long shot shows us a ruined landscape, dark, poor, with wooden houses in nature. The cries of Primrose confirm that the atmosphere in the district is sad. Prim is frightened by the games and she makes nightmares. With the close-up, we can see the emotion on Katniss's face, who also is terrorized by the hunger games, but she's trying somehow to reassure her little sister. we feel the fear and sadness of the girls thanks to this close-up which shows the lending faces.

Katniss sings one sad song, reflecting the atmosphere of the district. Again, a close-up is used for the viewer. He can feel the emotion of the character. We see that the sisters are welded. The cat we see is horrifying, he shows again what the district is scary.

When Katniss goes hunting in the woods, the cameraman uses a full shot, we see the holding of Katniss, the clothes are dirty, we see that she is poor. Compared to the Capitol clothes, the difference is clear. The cameraman uses a long shot, which shows again the poverty of District 12. People are unhappy, the characters are afraid, the houses and landscapes are dark, sad, they are scary, the grass is dark. We see that the children do not have a toy and they play in a river. The cameraman also uses a close-up to show us that they play with sticks. Next, we see the return of men who work in the mines, the medium shot shows us they are tired, dirty, miserable. Subsequently, a close-up shows us a man who eats a bone like an animal. This shows us that the population of this district is poor, hungry …
Then, a close-up is used to show that Katniss has broken the law. She goes to the woods by the forbidden border, the music is sad, we see an electrified barbed wire which is installed as if to show that the district's inhabitants are prisoners of the Capitol. We see through the close-up and long shot, Katniss that has hidden a bow, in the woods, and we also see that she has been careful not to be noticed by the peacekeepers and other members of the Capitol.
In conclusion, we see that life between the district and the Capitol is totally different. All is opposed. There is on one side the rich and on the other the poor. Members of the capitol easily live, while those in District 12 are struggling to feed themselves, they survive.

Hunger Games : opening scene, a dystopian world

Hunger Games is a triology of young adult dystopian novels written by Suzanne Collins and published in 2008. Four years ago it was adapted in film.

What is that about?

In the post apocalyptic nation of Panem, once known as North America, the Hunger Games are organized.
Katniss will represent District 12 in place of her younger sister Primrose.

What is "the Hunger Games"?

Hunger games is the name of a game, where one girl and one boy are chosen to represent their district, and fight to the death.Only one participant can survive so he needs to kill the others.

The opening scene

At the beginning of this excerpt, we can see two men: Seneca Crane and Caeser Flickerman. They are handsome. They are in a modern studio with many lights. These men talk about the consequences of the Hunger Games. We can see the wealth of the Capitol thanks to the clothes of these characters.
The camera focuses on the heads and shoulders of the characters, it is a medium shot.
During this dialogue, we hear the applause of the public.

District 12

We can see the poverty of this city. It's somber, no lights, no cars, the houses aren't modern, it looks like wooden shacks. There is a lot of difference with the Capitol which looks like this :

The Capitol looks like a town set in the future. There are many buildings.

On the video we can see the love between Katniss and Primrose who are sisters. Primrose has a nightmare maybe on the future hunger games. Katniss comforts her before going outside. We see their emotions. They seem worried. The girls speak slowly and calmly, they sing a song together.
The viewer can see details on their faces because it's a close up and a medium shot.

The song is tense.
When Katniss is outside we hear birds, hands touching water, footsteps of men who go to work, they feel sad and tired.

"District boundary, no access beyond this point", this electrified sign of the Capitol adresses to the inhabitants of District 12. They can't go in the woods because there are predators and other dangerous things but in reality there's also food and it's not a profit for the Capitol.

Why is it a dystopian word?

Panem is a dystopian world because this world is an imaginary universe in which oppresive societal control and the illusion of a perfect society are maintained through. It is a society conveined to be perfect. Here is the Capitol. But it isn't perfect, the Capitol uses dictature in order to keep the peace in this world. It is a perfect society for the Capitol but not for the districts.

The Hunger Games : Opening Scene.

The scene begins in a very bright place, with two extravagant characters. These are Caesar Flickerman and Seneca Crane. Caesar Flickerman is the man who interviews the tributes before they go into the arena. Seneca Crane is the Chief Judge during the 74th Hunger Games. Both belong to the Capitol, we can guess thanks to their extravagant and neat clothes. The camera uses a close up on them, which allows us to notice their hairstyles, their beards and their rich outfits. In the background we can hear joyful shouts and applause from the rich Capitol.

Then the scene continues on a long shot that shows the poverty of District 12. We understand immediately that it is a dystopia because contrary to the first scene, there are less lights, there are just elements of poverty: ruins, men and women who look tired and fearful.

We then hear the cries of a little girl, Primrose Everdeen, Katniss's sister. So we see from the close-up that the mood is not the same as in the Capitol. Indeed Primrose cries and screams because she knows it's time for the Hunger Games, we can also see that Katniss comforts her and both are worried. We can also see that their clothes are worn out, and their home is not as luxurious as those in the Capitol.

To conclude, we can say that it is a dystopia because there is a real difference between the Capitol and District 12. It is an unequal system, the people are poor, they are starving, live in very difficult living conditions and the Capitol knows it but does not change anything. On the contrary, for the rich people of the Capitol the Hunger Games are a real entertainment

Hunger Games

With this extract , we can see this world is a dystopia . There are several elements which prove it .

In the first scene , we are in the Capitol , there are two characters who are speaking .It's a medium shot , indeed the camera focuses on the characters and shoulders . In the scene , the characters are wearing very beautiful suits and their clothes have vivid colours ( blue , purple , red ) except one character  who is wearing a black suit but it's is very elegant . the lighting is clear , bright and warm. There is no music , just voices of people speaking and applauding .

In the second scene we are in District twelve . The first thing which we hear is a howl . It's a long shot , indeed the camera shows a distant landscape . Then we are in Katniss and Primrose's house. Prim has had a nightmare because she is scared of the hunger games so Katniss is singing to reassure her. It's a medium shot , so the camera focuses on the characters' head and shoulders . We are in poor and dull surroundings. Then there is music in background . The landscape is sad and almost destroyed. So we can say this world is a dystopia .

Final Task Hunger Games

Firstly, in the beginning of this extract the filmmaker uses bright colours in the TV set, the characters represent the Capitol. It makes us believe this world is "ideal".

After we come in District 12, I can see a house and vegetation, a sad  mood accompanied by a grey sky. We hear shoots.

We are in District 12, in the picture the cameraman plays on a mood of sadness. On the picture, I can see a woman who carries buckets, her clothes are worn out and dull. In the second picture, there is a woman who hangs her washing. That shows us that District 12 is poor.

The opening sequence of the Hunger Games helps to etablish the difference between The Capitol and District 12. The Capitol has expensive clothes while the population of District 12 has deteriorated clothes. We can determine that this world is a dystopia.

Hunger Games

At the beginning of the video, we see a long short on the Capitol, on a TVshow , the voices are very loud and the colours are very bright even excessive in hair color.

We can hear applause, at no time would they applaud District 12.

After they make a long shot on District 12, the atmosphere becomes dismal, everything is dark, black and grey, there are no bright colours, the only colour that stands out is the colour of the trees. In the first shot on District 12 we can hear screams and cries, the atmosphere between the Capitol and District 12 changes totally. It's terror then there is a close-up on Katniss and Prim, Prim is scared, she falls in tears in the arms of her sister, the sisters sing together proving that they are united.

We can see a shot where we see only the workers' feet, a woman is carrying buckets in her hands which shows she is exhausted, a woman is looking out of the window with an expressionless face. We can also see a woman washing her clothes in a bowl, hanging the laundry on a hand-made object, and there is also a shot on children playing in the mud, this shot shows that District 12 is poor. In the video from 2:04 to 2:52 there is a background music that shows once again that they are not happy.

In the following scenes we see dirty workers coming out of the mines and an old man, who eats in very bad conditions. The last scenes are posters forbidding to go further, but also saying that the barriers are electrified.

Hunger Games

At the beginning we can see two men from the Capitol in the middle of an interview. They are elegant and there are excessive colours, their voices are bearing (???). The interview consists in explaining the rules of the Hunger Games.

It's a medium shot then a long shot to show their wealth and their importance.

At 00:25 we see a close-up on them to show their expression when they explain. We hear applause which shows that the Capitol loves and encourages them. This is at 00:35.

"District 12" at 00:43 is in close-up which is used to locate the scene and the screams for the terror which shows this dystopia in District 12. The poverty is directly seen.

There is a real lag between the Capitol where there are many colours and District 12 where the colours are dark. District 12 is poor while the Capitol is rich and elegant.

The close-up at 00:54 shows Primrose 's tears and sadness. The population of District 12 is controlled. The life conditions are very hard.

At 1:16 there is a close-up on Primrose and Katniss and a background noise to show that Prim whispers in Katniss' ear. At 1:25 we can see a close-up on Primrose when Katniss sings to calm her then a close-up on Katniss. They sing together at 1:36 which shows that they are welded. The only wealth they have is their family.

At 2:11 they use a close-up on the basin to show how they do the laundry and that they are poor. About 2:16 we can see the dirty mine workers. Their faces seem sad. The colours are dark and they are poor. We see poverty once again all well as sadness. They work a lot to finally earn little and eat little.

At 2:22 kids are hidden out of fear. There is a close-up on them. Terror is seen on their faces and is also present in District 12. A poor man of District 12 is shown. He eats the little he has. He shows poverty and dystopia at 2:28.

Then a close-up sign is displayed to show the ban to penetrate in the woods followed by a close-up on the sign at 2:40 and 2:43.There is the sign showing that it's electrified and this shows the danger for District 12.

Under no circumstances can people go into the woods. The woods contain food so it is forbidden to enter.

To finish we hear a background dramatic music showing that it is a dystopia.

To conclude we can say that District 12 is a dystopia because people are poor, they eat little, terror is present, people have to kill themselves. No one would like to live in District 12.

Opening scene of the Hunger Games

From the beginning we can clearly see that the Capitol is a very rich territory, the opening scene starts on a TV set, with an interview at the Capitol between a TV presenter and the organizer of these Hunger games. Caesar Flickerman, the presenter, is wearing a pretty chic and pretty expensive tuxedo and he has a good hairstyle with blue hair and eyebrows. He's interviewing this Hunger games arranger, Seneca Crane, who explains how they are set this year, for his first time as a Producer. He's got a very weird beard, which is cut artistically as well as his "perfect" hairstyle. This TV set is radianting from lights everywhere, to simple lighting from purple cascade. The audience is cheering Seneca Crane for his speech dealing with the Hunger Games.

In parallel we have District 12, the poorest one, specialized in coal. First we hear a young girl shouting but we just see a darker city and rural space, and ruined wooden houses, everything is dull, the clothes of the characters, the lights, the sky. The camera is trembling and does not focus contrary to when we saw the Capitol. The characters have no makeup, are wearing simple outfits and have basic hairdressing, it's some natural look contrary to the inhabitants of the Capitol who are rather fanciful. After a vague presentation of the protagonist, Katniss and her frightened little sister, we follow katniss to the woods. On her way, we can feel the poor situation of this district, men are working in the mine so we can see women carrying some buckets with hardness, watching behind the window like a desperate widow and also hand-washing and spreading their linen. But we can also see children playing with wooden sticks and mud or hiding behind their broken house. We can perceive an old man devouring some chicken and throw down its carcass. There are finally the men who come back from the mine, they seem dirty and tired. In the very background we can see black smoke coming from power plants. Then at the end we can glimpse that Katniss is heading to a forbidden forrest thanks to a metallic fence and a signboard showing "District Boundary No access beyond this point".

With all these elements we can certainly note that District 12 is a dystopia ans that the Capitol keeps all the wealth.

Hunger games

Hunger Games, opening scene

Hunger Games is a science-fiction book which was adapted for the cinema in 2012 by Gary Ross.

It is a well-known American movie.

At the beginning of this scene we can see two eccentric and well-dressed people, with a beard, hair-style and suits. They are from The Capitol. The camera is fixed , it moves to show people's face and the lighting is colorful and there is no sound but their voices; Moreover they look serious when they speak about theconsequences of the Hunger Games . The scene takes place in a television studio.

Then in the second part where we can see District 12, contrary to the part with The Capitol, people are poor and homely and the lighting is dark. Otherwise people look homeless , they have bad living conditions. They live in a district which falls in ruins. There is a lot of realistic noises like steps, music. The camera moves a lot, it follows the actress when she runs in the district. and her moves. The actors play their roles perfectly, they are gloomy, invigorating and serious. The scenes takes place at Katniss’s home and in District 12.

A Dystopian World ?

Panem is a dystopia because people are sad, they must obey the government, The Capitol. District’s people live poorly and with bad living conditions whereas The Capitol’s people are rich and elegant. There is also the Hunger games where citizens must play, it’s an obligation, they have no choice but to participate. They risk their life in this game, there is one winner while there are twenty four participants.

Hunger Games a dystopian society

The Hunger Games is a science ficion movies based on the Hunger games trilogy of novels by Suzanne Collins. Also it's presented like a dystopian society. In this story there are 12 districts and a Capitol. The districts are classified by their wealth and District 12 is the poorest.

The opening scene begins with an interview, we can see two men talking together and looking at to the viewer. The consequences of these games are explained by the producer. We can note that these men are elegant, their postures are correct and their hair coiffed. They are dressed with an extravagant style and we can conclude this is the style of the Capitol. The characters are proud of the Hunger Games and the Capitol too because we can hear the viewers are applauding. The lighting is present everywhere and gives importance to the men.

In District 12 we can see it is different. In fact the place seems deserted, the floor dry and we can certify this is a poor district. Contrary to the Capitol there are no luxury things and the characters are not dressed with smart clothes. It's not the same hygiene and way of life between the Capitol and them. The inhabitants of District 12 seem afraid and stay in their houses made in wood. They're scared about the Hunger Games and we can certify that by the scream of Katniss's young sister and of her quote "It was me". Unlike the Capitol there is very little light, the scene is dark.

We can say it's a dystopian world because the Capitol is proud and loves the Hunger games contrary to District 12 where they are afraid of them. The way of life explains too the dystopia in this story. Also, the Capitol doesn't think about District 12 and those who died.

hunger games

The Hunger Games

Today we'll speak about the opening sequence of The Hunger Games, because we are going to study the way this sequence helps to establish the difference between the Capitol and District 12.

First, we will interest ourselves to camera techniques. In the beginning of the sequence we see the Capitol and two people who are part of it. These are two men, they're filmed closely, with a medium shot, while when it comes to District 12, this one is filmed first by a long shot on the landscape. Then it is Katniss and her sister who are filmed with a travelling movement, then the camera films Katniss when she is singing for her sister, and then the camera follows Katniss in her path towards the forbidden forest, with many full shots on her and on many people who are in District 12.

Let's go to the staging, The Capitol is located in a building, a closed place. The two men are dressed in a very luxurious way, they are wearing suits with ties, the beard well cut, the hair very well combed. They're clean, while the first shot of District 12 is a long shot on the landscape, and it's not the best place to live in. The people of District 12 like Katniss or her sister are not well coiffed, do not wear beautiful outfits. They're natural. At the sound level, in the Capitol we only hear the two voices of the men and the sound applause and shouts of joy public. However in District 12 we hear the sound of nature, the cry of the nightmare of a little girl. The lighting in the Capitol is made by projectors while in District 12 the lighting is made by the light of day.

So now, I can say this world is a dystopia. The Capitol is the government District 12 must obey, it is a rich government and yet their people are poor, all the information that I gave above are explanations to why this world is a dystopia. The inhabitants are left without electricity, their life is so difficult. There is a big difference between the outfits of The Capitol and District 12. Clearly, everything is different and an injustice.

The Opening of Hunger Games.

At the beginning, as a background sound, we have a quiet and soothing music which corresponds to the reality of these Hunger Games. Both people are having a discussion about the games. Let us focus on the colours worn by these men.
The 1st person is dressed in blue and black, which means melancholy and space. For the second one, the red means danger.
The cameras show only both characters, we have the impression that we are in front of them. There is no shot which shows the stage and the audience, as if we were locked. We see the characters in a alternated way but never together in the same shot.
It aims at showing an opposition to the reality of District 12 which is insipid and gloomy.

District 12 :
The camera shows us an overall view of the district.
There is an impression of space, the village seems dead. The piercing shouts of her sister are the proof that this dictatorship is terrifying. In the following shot, we are in Katniss's house. This one and her sister are wearing clothes in paler tones than the previous shot. The camera makes a semi-close-up on both sisters, which shows their complicity. There is not much light compared to the beginning of the extract. Katniss tries to reassure her sister. This one asks her to sing in a rocking chair to comfort her and help her to fall asleep again. Her nightmare is to be picked to participate in  the Hunger Games.
We move on with a sequence on Katniss. We have a front shot with an overview of the house, then on the face of the black cat, he is angry.
Katniss is running through the village. We move on with shots of the various villagers or the landscape. This chain of images shows us the difficulty of life and their poverty. The district is as a shanty town with wood and nick houses, mud, the mediocrity of people. The mat colors evoke dullness, solitude and misfortune. During this passage, we hear birds sing. Everything is silent and quiet compared to reality.

The following image shows the ban sign and the fence in barbed wire, we see a confinement and a constraint there. They are not free. Compared to the people in the government, they are like animals.

In conclusion, all these elements show us the comparison between District 12 and the government and the proof of this distopia.

Hunger Games

Hunger Games

When Seneca Crane and Caesar Flickerman speak about the Hunger Games there are many things which shine like sequins on their clothes or the lights on the set. In District 12 there is not a lot of sunlight it's darker. In the first scene we can hear some applause but when we arrive in District 12 immediately we hear screams. It is a sudden contrast. With this effect we can understand than these places are in conflict. The environment in District 12 is shabby, poor, we can see the huge difference between the Capitol and District 12. we could think that it is not the same period, as there are so many differences. When there is the scene with Katniss and Primrose the camera zooms on their faces to see their emotions better at this moment. Filmmakers use some techniques to tell stories like camera technique, acting, mise en scene, editing, lighting, sound and they use the acronym CAMELS. With all of that we can notice than Hunger Games world is a dystopia.

Hunger Games : Opening Scene

In this opening scene we can see two places.

The first place that we can see is a TV show. We can see two people in a really coloured and good-looking scene of a TV show. The two people are well dressed, that shows us how rich the Capitol is. We can notice that these two people who are representing the Capitol are a little bit weird in their haircut and all. This is maybe to show us the "Hunger Games" are happening in the future. We can see the details by the close up.

The person who looks like the presenter is asking questions to the other one who must be someone who is part of the capitol. And the other one must be someone important in the creation of the Hunger Games.

After this short moment showing the universe of the Capitol, the scene switches to another, here we can see District 12 and their misery. First we have a long shot on the landscape of District 12 and a few scenes that show their misery again. Everything is gray and black, there are pratically no colours. The only colours we see are the trees. In this part of the video we can see a huge difference between the Capitol and District 12. The Capitol accomodates rich people who are superior to the poor. District 12 lives in a dystopian world where they starve to death and get sick. As if their misery were not enough, the reaping system frightens all the inhabitants of the district. In the first scene we can hear the cries of Katniss Everdeen's younger sister, Primrose Everdeen. She is scared to be picked. Katniss tells her that she will not be chosen because she has far less chance than the others as it's her first time.

The Capitol uses propaganda, they say that the districts are rebels and they deserve the Hunger Games. So everyone trusts them and the Capitol is playing a good role in society whereas they are the cause of this dystopian world.

Hunger Games Opening : The most beautiful film of the world

The Hunger Games : Opening Scene

The Hunger Games is a film based on the novel written by Suzanne Collins. The film directed by Gary Ross was released in 2012. Here it is the opening scene :

Do you know what CAMELS is ? It is the acronym for Camera Techniques, Acting, Mise en Scene, Editing, Lighting and Sound. Those are techniques used by Filmmakers to tell stories.

So at first we can see two men talking about the Hunger Games, it is Caesar Flickerman and Seneca Crane, who is one of the judges of the pageant. They are at the Capitol and we can notice that there are lights everywhere and the camera uses close-up on the faces of the two characters. We can think this technique is used to show how wealthy the Capitol is and how beautiful the people who live there are.

Then we see a long shot of District 12, it contrasts a lot with the previous view of the Capitol. The colours are less joyful and more dull, in the Capitol there were colours everywhere, blue, red, purple, a little bit of pink. Now there is a lot of grey and brown. There are also close up on the faces of Katniss and her sister, probably to show they wear no make up and they look dirtier, less pretty because they are without artifice, more natural.

Also, when we see scenes in District 12 the camera is more shaky, unsteady whereas in the scenes at the Capitol the camera is rooted. Then, in District 12 there is a lot of long shots as if someone was stalking at Katniss while she goes into the woods.

So now, the question is : how can we see this world is a dystopian world with this extract ? At first, there's a quick explanation of what the Hunger Games are.

Then it opens on Seneca and Caesar talking and after it abruptly changes and it is set in District 12. So we can see there are two different “worlds”, a luxurious one and a poor one. Indeed, we have afterwards shots of the District and the life conditions of the inhabitants.

We follow Katniss while she runs across the District and she finally arrives to an electric fence. We can see that the Capitol makes sure no one will go across the fence because it's electrified and there are panels. But in the last scene, Katniss steps over the electrified wires and she heads to the woods.

To finish, we can say that it is a dystopian world because the population is controlled by the government which established a game to control them and because there are inequalities between the Capitol and District 12.

HUNGER GAMES; OPENING SCENE

The opening scene begins with an interview with two men, the Host of the Hunger Games and the Producer. The producer explains the consequences of these Games. This scene may be an extract from a television programme because the scene takes place in a bright and colourful studio, moreover, the characters are elegant for the “show”, they are well dressed, we can see the extravagant style of the Capitol on this extract. These two characters are proud of the Hunger Games, their speeches are dynamic and they are supported by a background noise of spectators who are applauding.

In front of the Capitol, District 12 is totally different, indeed, there is no light, the atmosphere is darker than in the first part. The characters are afraid. District 12 is just like a desert, with some little houses, nobody is outside, and the few people which we perceive carry worn-out clothes. Furthermore, the music in the background chosen by the director gives sympathy and sadness for District 12’s population. This population is afraid of the Games. This comparison between the Capitol and District 12 shows that we are in a dystopian world, because the Capitol is delighted at watching these games, while District 12 is afraid about them, and the Capitol doesn’t care about what they think and how they are.
